Chicolete Creek
Ranch RetreatJackson County, Texas

Overview

This unique ranch retreat stretches between the levee along a 100 acre lake and a large grove of live oak trees nearby. The project is designed in the style of a camping compound, with the main living spaces in a single structure strung along the top of the levee and a series of 6 sleeping cabins scattered in the trees beyond. The buildings are linked by a raised boardwalk which extends 300’ from a parking court past the tree grove through the main building and into the lake itself.

Simple gabled roof geometries are used on the cabins and this vocabulary is extended to the main living building by massing the larger structure into a series a gables connected by lower pitched roofs. The buildings are clad in stained cedar siding and cedar shingle roofs.
